It was necessary to know the voltage and current requirements for the
ROACH board, with and without the ADC and DAC boards installed.
These tests aid in the determination of the power supply requirements
for the readout electronics. Also, they help to establish the actual
pinouts of the computer motherboard standardized ATX12V power supply
connector, which was used in the ROACH board design.
Dave and Ran measured the voltages and currents required to operate the
ROACH board, with and without the ADC and DAC boards attached. A test
cable was made to measure the currents while the ROACH board was
running, along with the option to confirm the voltage levels. The
miniature switching power supply, picoPSU-160-XT, which plugs into the
ATX12V connector on the ROACH board, was installed, to determine its
possibility as a solution to providing power for the 16 ROACH boards
needed in the readout electronics.
